Raising Awareness
Good Dog Manners is about ME controlling MY DOG. It is NOT about OTHER people/dogs because we cannot control other people/dogs, nor can we know what issues or behaviours they are working on with their dog. While there were many bandanas, leashes, collars etc. that would try and relay messages such as 'nervous dog', 'dog in training' 'rescue dog' etc. there were always a few concerns that I could see with these.
For example, a bandana on a dog that reads 'nervous dog' would require you to look right at the dog in order to read that the dog was nervous, which would probably make the dog even more nervous. Other messages written on a bandana may encourage someone to interact with your dog, in order to read what was written, before interacting with you.
So I considered that a simple, bold & distinctive design on a dog's bandana would be better than words. It would need to be clearly recognizable from a distance, have bold colors and be a visual cue for advocating for 'Good Dog Manners'.
However, how would people know to associate the design with Good Dog Manners, and what Good Dog Manners advocates. This is where I considered Good Dog Manners apparel where the message and logo can be easily read and associated with the dog bandana and logo design. Wearing our apparel may also encourage others to interact with you first before interacting with your dog.
